Soon, Patatas Beltrán will begin installing a optical sorter with nine exits with six AI-equipped vision cameras, a polisher, new remote-controlled storage facilities, a de-stoner, and two product fillers. This represents an initial investment of approximately 4 million euros.

“These tools will allow us to optimize the selection and processing of potatoes with greater efficiency and less reliance on manual labor, preparing us for future challenges in the agri-food sector. This technological investment not only streamlines processes but also ensures greater quality control in every batch, guaranteeing that only the best potatoes reach the final consumer,” explains José Beltrán, manager of Patatas Beltrán.

The company continues to strengthen its leadership in the production and marketing of Spanish-origin potatoes, sourcing from all major production areas in the country.

Patatas Beltrán carefully selects the best varieties based on season and climate conditions, sourcing from key regions such as Cartagena, Málaga, Seville, Castilla y León, Valencia, Albacete, Murcia, Alicante, and Mallorca.

Additionally, the company has its own production in Albacete, allowing it to guarantee optimal quality year-round and better adapt to market needs.

In a sector where imported potatoes still remain dominant, the company is reinforcing its commitment to Spanish potatoes, ensuring quality and freshness in every variety. The goal is to provide consumers with a product that offers excellent taste and texture, prioritizing authenticity and local origin.

One of the company’s strategic pillars is communication and marketing. Patatas Beltrán has heavily invested in the design of its potato packaging, creating a distinctive visual identity in the marketplace.

The company has launched themed boxes and, more recently, developed exclusive packaging for specific varieties, such as Levante by Agrico, a high-quality, versatile culinary potato.

These customized boxes not only enhance brand recognition but also help consumers identify different varieties and their best culinary uses.

The company has conducted trials in Mallorca, Cartagena, Almería, and Biar (Alicante) to find the optimal combination of soil, climate, and variety to guarantee a high-quality product.

“We are fully aware of the challenges involved in producing verdete potatoes, but this trend will allow for a more continuous supply of Spanish potatoes and help reduce reliance on imports during supply gaps. This trend is gaining traction among major retailers,” explains Beltrán.

The High Quality of Cartagena’s New Potatoes

At the same time, the company has identified Campo de Cartagena as an ideal location for new potato production, offering a viable alternative for farmers facing phytosanitary restrictions while adopting more sustainable and efficient practices.

Thanks to advanced irrigation technologies and biological solutions such as Trichoderma, Cartagena’s new potatoes have achieved exceptional quality, gaining market share both nationally and internationally.

To ensure year-round availability and optimal preservation, Patatas Beltrán currently operates 16 storage chambers, allowing it to store and distribute potatoes in perfect conditions throughout the year, with a total capacity of 15 million kilograms.

This storage capacity is crucial for maintaining a consistent supply of high-quality potatoes and quickly responding to market demand.

Additionally, the company is considering expanding its headquarters in Los Rojales, Alicante, to support its continued growth and improve operational capacity. This potential expansion would allow further logistics optimization and strengthen its position in the sector.

Patatas Beltrán’s commitment to innovation and continuous improvement has established it as a reference in the industry.

With a strategy focused on technology, effective communication, and prioritizing Spanish-origin products, the company is redefining the value of Spanish potatoes, seamlessly combining tradition and innovation.
