Citrosol expands

Fruit Today magazine interviewed Inma Navarro, Technical-Commercial Director, and Javier Monzonis, Northern Zone Commercial Manager of the company
citrosol-catsystem

What are Citrosol’s most significant innovations?

The latest innovation is CATsystem®, an automatic and intelligent dosing system that measures fungicide concentrations in the drencher. Additionally, it corrects any decreases in fungicide levels, ensuring that the treatment is always in optimal conditions and reducing variability in residues. This guarantees high efficacy and prevents decay issues. It is a highly innovative system.

The main innovation is that the sample is taken and measured directly in the drencher. If the value is too high or too low, it is adjusted to ensure that the treatment remains in ideal conditions.

We have installed it with two clients, and they are very satisfied with the results.

Is the treatment efficacy consistent for all fruit passing through the drencher?

Yes, because it measures and adjusts almost simultaneously, ensuring a homogeneous treatment at all times. Previously, when a variable changed, an analysis was needed before making adjustments, which could take several hours. Meanwhile, the packing house continued working, and many tons passed through the line without proper correction.

One of the system’s key features is that clients have direct access to volume and concentration data. If an issue arises, an alarm is triggered, and the correction is applied automatically.

How long has CATsystem® been on the market?

We spent a year and a half conducting pilot tests, and since this season, it has been implemented in two major industry companies. It is a slow process because we must thoroughly verify with the client that everything functions correctly. CATsystem® is an innovative solution that optimizes the effectiveness of fungicide treatment in drenchers, so its implementation requires detailed monitoring to adapt to each operation and ensure the best results.

Will it be implemented internationally?

Yes. CATsystem® will also be launched internationally this season, with South Africa as the first market we will work with.

Why is disinfection key in postharvest treatments?

The number of authorized active ingredients is decreasing, making strict control of treatments and proper disinfection essential. If a treatment is well applied but the environment is contaminated, its effectiveness diminishes.

We focus on prevention through sampling and customized treatments for each client. Our technical-commercial team monitors client data and conducts preventive resistance analyses. We use PCR tests to quickly detect fungi such as Penicillium and determine if they are resistant to fungicides.

What are Citrosol’s other strengths?

We offer a wide range of products for horticultural crops such as peppers, tomatoes, and peeled garlic, as well as for fresh-cut produce. Additionally, we provide a diverse selection of 100% plant-based waxes for coatings, responding to the growing market demand for eco-friendly options. Although some clients still use synthetic coatings, the trend is shifting towards more sustainable solutions.

What advantages do plant-based coatings offer?

Our plant-based coatings are formulated with carnauba wax, a natural raw material that protects the fruit without compromising its visual quality. Current formulations have evolved significantly, offering optimal shine and improving fruit appearance. We have specialized coatings for avocados, which have been well received in Peru, particularly for exports to the United States, where their ability to extend the fruit’s shelf life is highly valued.
