The CIV- Consorzio Italiano Vivaisti Scarl of San Giuseppe di Comacchio (FE) will be present with its own stand in the common space “Piazza Italia” of CSO ITALY at the FRUITLOGISTICA Exhibition in Berlin.
“At this event,” says CIV President Mauro Grossi, “CIV will have the opportunity not only to present the uniqueness of our 40 years of experience in strawberry and apple varietal innovation (able to provide high-quality fruit that can be grown with low energy requirements, low labour costs, and low environmental impact) but also, and above all, to meet the main operators in the industry and our international licensees/partners with whom we have strategic-operational collaborations.
“The fortieth anniversary since our foundation,’ continues Grossi, ‘is an important milestone achieved thanks first and foremost to the support of our members (Mazzoni Vivai, Salvi Vivai, Tagliani Vivai), our team, our partners – including Idris Trading & Consulting, which recently celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary – and our customers. At the same time, it is a stimulating starting point for our next ambitious consortium goals in Varietal Research & Development at the service of the entire production-distribution chain and the end consumer.
In order to be able to respond to the increasingly specific needs and requirements of producers and consumers and to the continuous climatic-environmental change on a global level, CIV breeding program is based on the following cornerstones: natural plant rusticity, ease of cultivation, productivity, adaptability to different soil and climatic conditions (for conventional, integrated and organic production), resistance to the most important diseases and an increasing eco-sustainability (e.g. reduced water and nutritional requirements) with long storage/shelf-life fruits, high organoleptic characteristics and a distinctive aesthetic appearance.
“With the occasion of our 40th anniversary,” continue President Grossi with Commercial Director Federico Stanzani, “CIV will organise a series of ‘CIV 40th Events‘ during 2024 – with celebrations starting in April at the CIV headquarters in San Giuseppe di Comacchio – which will take place during the next major international trade exhibitions in July during NIAB East Malling UK Fruit Focus (strawberries), in October during Madrid Fruit Attraction (apples and strawberries) and in November during Bolzano Interpoma (apples) with the aim of celebrating together and expressing our sincere gratitude to all those – Partners, Licensees and Customers – who have contributed and who contribute to nourishing the lifeblood of our activities and who also constitute the driving forces of our varietal innovation centre”.
The CIV Apple Research & Development Program includes the very recent CIVM65*/Desy® apple variety, developed by the European exclusive licensee Rajpol Sp. Z.o.o., one of the most important Polish cooperatives. The fruit is bright red in colour, with crisp, juicy and sweet flesh. The plant is rustic, hardy and easy to manage, a true promise of apple growing. In addition, the variety CIVM49pbr/RedPop® developed by the European exclusive licensee V.O.G., is characterised by an aesthetically very attractive, medium-small fruit with a homogenous shape and a deep red colour. In terms of taste, it is characterised by its very firm and crisp flesh, high sweetness and unexpected floral aroma’.
Among the most distinctive CIV strawberry varieties are the North European/North American favourites CLERYpbr, MURANOpbr and the newer Klodia®/CIVH725*, Ania®/CIVRH612pbr and Cantus®/CIVRH621pbr with high chilling requirements, and the warmer climates Shayda®/CIVL519pbr with low chilling requirements.
