Dulcis ™ Bio, the organic version of the green kiwi that brings together sweetness and freshness, has scooped the prestigious Sabor do Ano 2025 award. This leading food industry accolade in Portugal and Spain is given based on consumer preferences.
This award is a true guarantee of quality, as it is granted solely based on consumer appraisals, free from the influence of marketing or branding. Candidate products undergo rigorous blind taste testing, in an accredited laboratory, conducted by a panel of 80 consumers who shop regularly. Evaluations are based on five key criteria: taste, appearance, aroma, texture and overall satisfaction. To obtain the stamp of excellence, a product must not only exceed a minimum score but also outperform competitors in its category.
The award ceremony took place yesterday, 27 February, marking an important milestone for Dulcis™, which is increasingly establishing itself as a benchmark in the premium kiwi segment. The satisfaction of this achievement is expressed in the words of Mirco Montefiori, President of Dulcis Kiwifruit Company: “Receiving the Sabor do Ano 2025 award directly from consumers is a tremendous honour for us. We have dedicated a great deal of time to studying our target audience, analysing their needs and preferences, and the Sabor do Ano award confirms that our efforts are heading in the right direction. However, we have carefully curated every aspect, from the distinctive packaging design to the information provided, but most importantly, we have focused on the product’s organoleptic quality. Was created with the goal of offering a superior alternative to traditional kiwis, combining the sweetness typical of yellow-fleshed varieties with the freshness of green kiwifruit.”
Dulcis™ Bio
Dulcis™ Bio is the result of years of research and innovation, developed in collaboration with the University of Udine and the University of Bologna. The project, led by bio-science enterprise New Plant in partnership with the cooperatives Alegra (the commercial division of Apo Conerpo), Apofruit and Orogel Fresco, was designed to offer consumers an organic kiwi of exceptional quality, with distinctive characteristics in terms of both flavour and environmental sustainability. The Bio version is marketed by Canova, Brio, and Orogel Fresco, leading players in the organic fruit and vegetable sector in Italy and internationally.

In the 2024/25 season, Dulcis™ production hit approximately 600 tonnes, with distribution primarily aimed at the Italian market. At the same time, the first export programmes have been launched across Europe, with particular focus on Germany, the Benelux countries, Spain and Portugal. The success achieved in these markets confirms the brand’s strong potential for international growth, further strengthened by the Sabor do Ano award, which it obtained in Portugal and Spain.
Finally, this recognition not only underscores the outstanding quality of Dulcis™, but also serves as a springboard for expanding the product’s presence in these strategic markets, where kiwifruit is already winning over consumers.
