Fruitnet Tomato Congress arrives in Málaga

Fruitnet’s leading international event for the global fresh tomato industry comes to Málaga on 11–12 November, bringing together key players and decision-makers from across Europe to discuss, connect, and explore the future of the tomato category

This year’s Fruitnet Tomato Congress will feature a world-class line-up of speakers who will examine how factors such as climate change, logistical disruptions, and technological innovation are reshaping tomato production, sourcing strategies, and R&D.

Among the confirmed speakers are Lambert van Horen (Rabobank), Kacem Bennani Smires (Delassus), Pedro Ruiz (Granada La Palma), Alberto Cuadrado Salmerón (Rijk Zwaan), David Abeijon (Biobest), and Matias Carrizo and Alberto Parra (Carrefour Group).

Industry experts David Del Pino (Freshtrategy) and Andriy Yarmak (FAO, EastFruit) will provide an overview of how these changes are affecting Europe, as well as key growing regions across North Africa, the Mediterranean, and Central Asia.

Meanwhile, Jordi Ballester (Letitout Food Creativity), Lena Maas (Hudson River), Jim Jefcoate (Hurdletree Associate), and Clara Romero (Food Experts) will explore what the tomato of 2030 could look like in terms of flavour, nutrition, sustainability, resilience, packaging, and branding.

Seed companies such as HM Clause, Hazera, Yuksel Seeds, and BASF-Nunhems will share insights into their progress in breeding tomatoes with higher resistance to viruses, pests, and extreme weather.

At the same time, technology leaders Max van den Hemel (Delphy), David Hicks (Altered Carbon), Ben Pieterse (TTA-ISO), Dr Antony Chapman (Phytoform Labs), Freddie Reed (Intelligent Growth Solutions), and Jan-Willem Snoeker (Merqato) will offer a glimpse into how robotics, AI, and smart systems are transforming the tomato business of tomorrow.

All sessions will include simultaneous translation between Spanish and English, ensuring that participants don’t miss a single insight.

The Fruitnet Tomato Congress will feature a full two-day programme, with the first day dedicated to discussions and networking, followed by a second day of technical tours to the facilities of Rijk Zwaan, Unica Group, and Granada La Palma.
