Kiwi and cherry: Arrigoni’s solutions against cracking and climate adversities

At Fruit Attraction 2025, Arrigoni will present its most advanced proposals to protect kiwifruit and cherries from current climate challenges. The aim is to safeguard both crop quality and growers’ investments
ARRIGONI

Arrigoni, a global player in the design and production of technical textiles for agriculture, returns to Fruit Attraction (Hall 8, Stand D26), the leading international trade show for the fruit and vegetable sector, held from 30 September to 2 October at IFEMA, Madrid.

On this occasion, the group from the province of Como (Italy) will showcase its most innovative solutions for modern and sustainable agriculture, confirming its role as a reliable partner for agricovering, particularly in kiwifruit and cherry production.

The phenomenon of cracking – the splitting of fruit skin caused by rainfall during the final ripening stage – is one of the most critical challenges for these crops, which are highly sensitive to climatic events. Beyond reducing the commercial appeal of fruit, cracking also leads to significant financial losses for growers.

Among the most advanced responses developed by Arrigoni to reduce the damage caused by adverse weather and harmful insects, plastic rain covers – available both in film and netting – have proven the most reliable for shielding fruit from direct water impact. In addition to preventing cracking, these systems create a favourable microclimate for ripening.

In recent years, it has also become clear that the most highly valued kiwifruit varieties require specific protection systems to guarantee secure investments and quality production. For yellow kiwifruit, sun exposure and hail are the main risks, while red kiwifruit is particularly sensitive to both sun and rain.

For kiwifruit and cherry production, Arrigoni will present at Fruit Attraction the new protective film V Agro Air Cool®, a genuine breakthrough in thermal management for greenhouses, and the net Protecta Ultra®, a multifunctional screen capable of providing several functions, including very high rainfall control (up to 95%), thanks to its dense weave and the incorporation of a special sliding additive that helps drain water from the fabric surface.

The moderate shading factor and the light-diffusing effect of the monofilament fabric ensure soft light that prevents sunburn and has a positive impact on ripening, colour uniformity, and flavour. The range also includes combinations of materials designed not only to protect against rain but also against harmful insects such as Drosophila suzukii.

Additionally, the group also offers Dili Ultra®, which, like Protecta Ultra®, is manufactured with special pigments and top-quality raw materials. It is an innovative solution specifically designed for crops that are highly sensitive to humidity and bacteria, such as red kiwifruit. Thanks to its multifunctionality, this cover not only controls rainfall up to 100% but also provides full protection against hail, insects, and other damaging weather events.

Dili Ultra® is a technologically advanced covering that guarantees long-lasting performance in the field, even under harsh conditions. Beyond physical protection, it modulates light to create moderate shading, encouraging earlier ripening while significantly enhancing colour, texture, and flavour.

This synergy between climate protection and light optimisation makes the system a strategic choice for growers seeking to maximise the quality, yield, and sustainability of their crops.

The appointment with Arrigoni is at Hall 8, Stand D26, where technicians and experts will be on hand to present the most suitable proposals for each production reality, with the aim of building the future of agriculture together.
