In February 1994, the first warehouse of Los Gallombares was established in Ventorros de San José. Today, three decades later, the Granada-based cooperative has significantly expanded its structure, now operating four production centers, employing nearly one thousand workers, and increasing its production volume from 200,000 kg in its early days to 8.5 million kg this season.

“Growth has been exponential, but we have always maintained our commitment to quality and sustainability,” explains José Ángel Delgado, Commercial Manager.

“Rainfall has played a crucial role, enabling a 20% production increase compared to the previous season.” Due to low temperatures, the season has been delayed until the second week of March.

Expansion

With 95% of its production in Granada, the cooperative has started expanding into Cádiz and Huelva, training 30 farmers to advance the harvest in upcoming seasons. “Our goal is to begin production in February, gaining two to three weeks and extending the commercial window.”

Sustainable DNA

Sustainability is another key pillar of Los Gallombares’ identity. currently, 90% of its energy supply comes from renewable sources, thanks to the installation of solar panels. additionally, all its packaging is made from recyclable cardboard, paper, and wood, and features labels highlighting this effort, in line with retail sector demands to reduce environmental impact.

Currently exporting to over 25 countries, this year Los Gallombares has entered new markets in Japan and China while reinforcing its presence in Canada. However, Delgado acknowledges that the sector is facing increasing challenges: “each year, commercialization becomes more difficult because the european union’s quality requirements are becoming increasingly stringent.”

To tackle this, the company is working towards obtaining new certifications, including SPRING, and is exploring the launch of an organic product line within two years in response to customer demand.

Despite strong competition from Italy, Germany, Hungary, and Poland in May, Los Gallombares remains confident in sustaining its market position through diversification and expansion.

“We will continue investing to grow and provide our customers with competitive advantages that make a difference,” concludes Delgado.
