This is the third time Bonnysa has participated in the Flavor of the Year certification, a seal it previously earned for its grated tomato for four consecutive years and twice for bananas. Not only has the company retained the seal, but it has also improved all its scores in the tasting evaluations, where consumers have rated it outstanding across all aspects.

As Jorge I. Brotóns, Commercial Director of Bonnysa, notes:

“All the efforts we have made in cultivation, warehousing, quality, and other departments allow us to offer a product with a distinctive flavor that consumers value above average.”

During this fiscal year, Bonnysa has implemented significant measures to enhance banana cultivation, ensuring year-round availability, stable volumes, and more balanced pricing. The company’s comprehensive action plan for bananas is undoubtedly one of the key factors contributing to its exceptional flavor.

“Achieving this seal and, above all, increasing our score compared to previous editions confirms that we are on the right track.”

All Bonnysa banana production takes place at its facilities on Tenerife Island, under high-efficiency greenhouses and using an irrigation and humidity system that replicates the tropical conditions typical of banana cultivation. This is supported by tools such as a desalination plant and controlled irrigation systems to optimize access to water resources.

Additionally, the entire plantation is equipped with a cable-guided system, unique in Europe, which transports bananas from the field to the warehouse while minimizing product handling. Bonnysa also has ripening chambers on the mainland to ensure the product reaches consumers at its optimal point of ripeness.

The company manages all these processes under strict production and quality controls for its more than 10 million kilograms of bananas, making it one of the leading banana producers in the Canary Islands.

As Brotóns concludes:

“We are capable of delivering volume and flavor throughout the entire campaign while positioning ourselves as a recognizable and appreciated brand among consumers. And all of this is possible thanks to the incredible team at Bonnysa.”
