The Consortium represents 6% of all European apples and 32% of the Italian market. The company is present on 75 international markets. The four factors that have always formed part of VOG’s DNA are now taking on a new meaning:
Origin
Altitudes ranging from two hundred to one thousand metres, an important temperature variation between day and night and three hundred days of sunshine a year create the perfect conditions for ripening, while the soil, with a low clay content and rich in sand, encourages the development of the apple tree roots.
Expertise
Four thousand six hundred farmers, twelve cooperatives and the sales, quality control, administration, logistics, marketing and public relations departments. “Over ten thousand hands work every day to bring the best apples to the tables of the entire world,” comments the Sales Manager at VOG, Klaus Hölzl.
Sustainability
Environmentally, and at the same time, economically and socially sustainable, as the Quality Manager, Kathrin Pirchstaller, remarks: “Our apples are a resource for the entire region and for our children; for this reason, we have created the sustainapple project: in addition to promoting the use of low environmental impact practices, we are using innovation and cutting-edge technology to guarantee a long-lasting well-being to our production chain over the next decades.”
Wide range in brands
From the Marlene® brand to Pink Lady®, Kanzi®, envy™ and Yello®, JazzTM and SweeTango®, up to the latest generation apples such as RedPop®, Giga® and Cosmic Crisp® and the biological varieties and brands, VOG’s range is able to offer the perfect apple to meet any demand, twelve months of the year.
2022 Campaign
The volume forecasts regarding comprehensive production are slightly below 450.000 tn, with a 3.5% drop compared to the previous season. However, the biological production estimates are clearly rising (+15%), with over 35,000 tn, thanks to the new trees transplanted in recent years.
With respect to the varieties, an obvious drop in the Royal Gala (-15%) has been recorded due to the significant, abnormal and early falling of fruit in the spring. Granny Smiths are recovering their normal levels after last season’s small harvest, while the rest of traditional apples are seeing drops in their amounts, as a result of the variety renewal undertaken by the Consortium in recent years.
The variety plans also involve important increases in the new brands and in the varieties subject to contract, such as Pink Lady® (+15%), Kanzi® (+11%), Envy™ (+35%), Yello® (+32%), Joya® (+74%), Crimson Snow® (+40%) and SweeTango® (+32%). The growth of VOG’s latest launches also continues to grow: Giga® will double its production with over 4,000 tn; RedPop® will reach around 3,000 (+40%) and Cosmic Crisp® will reach 3,500 tn.
Promotion
The south Tyrolean chef from the 3-star restaurant St. Hubertus, at the Hotel Rosa Alpina, Norbert Niederkofler, is the new face for the flavour and experience of Marlene® apples. It is a collaboration that brings together origins and a dimensional scope, pleasure and sustainability, art and culture. The chef will accompany the VOG Consortium throughout the season with top-level initiatives devoted to the art of sampling apples, paying special attention to the four seasons.
