I Open Winter Brassicas Days by Sakata

Sakata Seed Ibérica is speeding up and putting new varieties of brassicas on the market. Over the last three years alone, the company has presented 16 new varieties

During these winter days, SAKATA showed the most outstanding varieties in Pozo Aledo, in Murcia.

Within the cauliflower range, 4 varieties stand out: Berlín, Estocolmo, CAU031070 and Denver; cauliflowers that are suitable for both the Spanish home market and for industry. Accordingly, Spain plays an important role competing against the French productions and it is positioned as the most important production area in Europe.

In cauliflowers, the best varieties for industry are the top varieties in vigour, production and shape.

Sakata showcased the following ones:

Berlín F1, a variety with a very interesting 110-day maturity. Good twisty curd protection. White colour and good potential head size with dome head shape.

Estocolmo F1, compact plant size with an excellent leaf crown. Maturity 120 to 130 days. Good tolerance to weather changes with good holding ability, keeping the quality.

Denver F1, variety for autumn harvesting, with a cycle of 85 – 95 days. It shows very good results for both fresh sales and for industry. Excellent twisty covering and flattened head shape.

CA031070 F1. This is a new variety that is still in development, with 130-day maturity in Murcia. Highly vigorous plant with good covering and very white, heavy heads.

In the green broccoli segment, the following varieties stand out:

Boreas F1. New late maturity variety. Easy to harvest, with a very clean stem. Good tolerance to low temperatures.

Thassos F1. Late maturity. Compact plant with erect leaves; possible to increase the planting density. Very heavy heads, with high yield in processing for frozen market.

Ulysses F1. Very domed and compact head shape. Very vigorous plant size, easy to grow in different conditions. Good holding ability.

BRO03184 F1. Next commercial variety. Huge slot due to autumn to spring harvest. Large head size, both for fresh and processing markets. Good holding ability. This reference has the highest expectations placed on it and it could be the new Parthenon, but with greater yield.

In purple broccoli, Sakata has:

Purple Magic F1, first commercial variety with purple colour in head and stem. Its colour responds to the presence of anthocyanins. Harvesting from autumn until early winter. Early maturity, 70-85 days, it has just won the prestigious All American Selection award in the United States.

Tyrian F1. Sprouting broccoli with purple colour in head and stem. Excellent flavour and texture. Able to harvest all year round with different maturities, from 75 days in the summer to 105 days in the winter.

In kale:

Blue Ridge F1. Variety with dark blue-green colour. Leaves with very high quality, dense and very curly. Good bolting tolerance, ideal for the end of winter and spring harvest.

In pointed cabbage:

Cape Roca F1. Vigorous plant size. High holding ability, with low internal core size. Good behaviour against Fusarium oxysporum.

It is a cabbage that is dedicated to the export market, mainly for England.
