Amid rising European demand for tropical fruit, Montosa has kicked off the mango season with strong volumes and excellent quality. With an equally positive outlook for domestic avocados, the company is entering the new campaign with ambitious sales programmes already agreed with various operators.

Higher mango volumes

After a 2024 harvest marked by fruit shortages, this season looks very different for Montosa.MONTOSA

“Last year was very difficult because there was hardly any fruit. However, this season the mango crop is much larger, with good quality and all calibres,” explained Montosa’s commercial director, Thierry Athimon.

“When there’s fruit, everyone rushes to harvest, but we ensure fruit with good colour and work to reduce latex stains. That’s why Montosa mangoes are highly valued by customers and stand out on the market,” Athimon added, underlining the company’s commitment to quality fruit handling.

Positive outlook for avocados

Following heavy rainfall last winter, the outlook for Spanish avocados is also encouraging.

“The rains provided access to large amounts of water, which has boosted avocado production in both volume and size. With avocados you always need to be cautious and wait until harvest to confirm yields, but right now we see a promising campaign ahead, both conventional and organic,” Athimon noted.

Guacamole leading the retail market

Montosa continues to grow with its fresh guacamole for major retailers.

“In Spain, we have been producing guacamole for the country’s leading supermarket chain for years, and this collaboration has been essential in popularising consumption. Thanks to this, today guacamole in Spain is no longer seen as an ethnic food but as a regular part of family diets,” said Athimon.

Made from 100% fresh avocados and processed at its own facilities using cutting-edge HPP technology, Montosa’s guacamole is recognised for its flavour and texture.

“We deliver a high-quality product. We’ve invested in expanding capacity and automation. Now that production is secure, we’re working on new recipes to achieve greater distribution across Europe,” Athimon concluded.

Visitors interested in experiencing premium tropical fruit can meet Montosa at Fruit Attraction, Madrid, 30 September to 2 October, Hall 10, Stand D16.
