Moyca harnesses artificial intelligence to predict harvest volumes

Moyca, a company specialised in seedless table grapes, has implemented an innovative technology across 600 hectares of its vineyards that enables automatic fruit counting directly on the vines. This system makes it possible to predict the final production of the crops where it is applied with an accuracy rate of between 90% and 95%

The tool works through computer vision cameras that capture images, which are then automatically analysed using image-processing algorithms and machine learning. This process makes it possible to count visible grapes, georeference each bunch to determine its exact location, and measure plant vigour, canopy density and the vertical distribution of production.

The result is detailed maps of each plot, showing crop load, identifying areas with greater or lesser development, and predicting harvest peaks.

The data are particularly useful at two key moments: during pruning, they help estimate the productive potential of each plant and adjust the load to achieve more uniform fruit of larger size and better quality; and during pre-harvest, the information allows Moyca to forecast the total volume of seedless table grapes weeks in advance. This in turn supports more accurate sales planning, logistics alignment with field conditions, and optimisation of the workforce required for harvest.

“The foresight this provides is essential for us because it allows us to make decisions with a much higher chance of success,” said Jerónimo García Monreal, Moyca’s Chief Product Officer, who also described the innovation as “a true reflection of our ongoing commitment to adopting new tools to produce and market the best fruit on the market.”

A culture of innovation

This commitment to innovation is not new, but part of Moyca’s DNA. The company consistently integrates cutting-edge technological tools to optimise production and commercial processes, anticipate market challenges, and guarantee the highest quality in every campaign. By combining agricultural tradition with digital transformation, Moyca has reinforced its position as a sector leader, offering high-quality seedless table grapes 365 days a year.
