MSC adds new citrus route between South Africa and the U.S.

Starting in October 2025, MSC will introduce an enhanced standalone service connecting South Africa with the U.S. East Coast, with a strong focus on supporting citrus exports during the harvest season
MSC-CITRUS-ROUTE

MSC the only shipping line to offer a direct maritime link between the two regions, providing a specialized and regular service for the citrus trade.

The upgraded service will feature eight vessels, including four new additions, operating on a weekly frequency to ensure reliable transit. Notably, the service will include a call at the Port of Philadelphia during the citrus season — a key hub for South African fruit imports.

The port rotation for the new service is as follows:
Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) – Durban – Cape Town – New York – Baltimore – Norfolk – Charleston – Freeport – and back to Gqeberha.
