Semillas Fitó will present its Sustainability Plan

Fitó is attending Fruit Logistica, strengthening its brand positioning and presenting an ambitious 2026 Sustainability Plan

Semillas Fitó, a benchmark company in the sector of genetic improvement, production and distribution of fruit and vegetable seeds worldwide could not miss this appointment, which it will use to strengthen its global brand positioning, presented at this event last year under the slogan “Improving food is in our genes.”

Its stand (Hall 1.2 / Stand C-31) will be focused on passing on the company’s commitment to the professionals, convinced of the great impact of seeds on the entire agrifood chain and of the responsibility that seed companies have to achieve better food worldwide, both with respect to food safety (with varieties that are more productive, more resistant, etc.,) and in the reduction of food waste (varieties with a longer post-harvest, etc.) and the idea of promoting healthier food.

It will also continue promoting its consumer brand proposals, such as the Monterosa tomato, which is going to be presented in a new, smaller format: the “Monterosa Mini”, the Waikiki melon, which has been awarded with the “Portugal 2024 Flavour of the Year”, the CRÜ courgette or the Wabi-Sabi tomato, the healthiest proposal for a versatile garnish.

2026 Horizon Sustainability Plan

Another prominent point will be the presentation of the 2023-2026 Sustainability Plan, which sets some clear objectives to be reached over the next three years: the company becoming a reference point in sustainability in the sector through internal and external actions by providing varieties and concepts that help to develop a sustainable supply chain.

Looking towards 2026, they set their sights on the goal of launching onto the market varieties that have been selected for their special contribution to the reduction of the ecological footprint in all the processes: from the production of the actual seed, subsequent fruit production, until its final distribution. Additionally, for 2024, the company is already committed to developing actions that promote the circular economy and mitigate the water footprint at its production centres. The organisation’s carbon footprint will also be calculated to implement strategies that help with its reduction. Another commitment for these three years is to increase the percentage of power self-consumption in all the centres. In short, the idea is that in 2026 the set of 20 projects defined in the Sustainability Plan will be completed.
