Poland has also been affected by the unusual occurrence of excessively hot weather. Both yield and production have dropped. A possible decrease in surface area below 200,000 ha compared to the 236,000 of 2021 is under consideration. This reduction is linked to the production decrease of potato flour and to a lesser extent, of consumption potatoes.
In the United Kingdom, the yields are also lower than the previous year’s and they are having quality problems such as high amounts of dry material, dartosis, secondary growth of the tubers, etc.
In Spain, the potato harvest in the largest production region, Castilla-León, is also recording a reduced harvest. It is estimated that in this campaign 17,000 hectares of plantations will be reached, with an average yield of around 60 tonnes per hectare. The price at source for the farmers is quite good, at around 30 to 40 cents per kilo.
