The season in Huelva has been severely affected by heavy rainfall and excess humidity, which damaged the fruit.
According to Freshuelva, the weather could bring the season to an early close by the end of May or very early June.
On the upside, average prices have remained positive for growers, and the high reservoir water levels ensure irrigation for the next season.
In the third week of April, commercialised volume dropped sharply—by 35% compared to the previous week—clearly indicating that the season’s peak had passed.

Rafael Domínguez, Managing Director of Freshuelva, stated that “indeed, so far, this campaign has brought lower strawberry yields,” due to the weather, “as strawberries do not respond well to such heavy rainfall.” By the end of April, “the losses had not been recovered,” and the figures were “10 to 12% below the same month’s data for the last two campaigns.” However, he added that “markets have remained fluid, with strong demand and good prices across most of Europe in recent weeks.”
