Fruit Logistica Berlin 2025 visitors will have a chance to trial TOMRA’s LUCAi® live on the TOMRA Food stand. Launched in 2018 for blueberries, LUCAi® became the world’s first deep learning product for fruit sorting. In Berlin, TOMRA Food’s team will run demonstrations for visitors to see LUCAi® in action for apples and cherries — as well as the very newly released citrus application.
“We hear it over and over again from customers around the world: LUCAi® simplifies life for operators,” says Christian Tougaard, TOMRA Food’s Regional Sales Director for EMEA. “TOMRA customers who have upgraded to LUCAi® report that it does the heavy lifting for grading and alleviates the stress caused by frequent false positives experienced with traditional mapping systems.”
“When LUCAi® goes live in the packhouse, confidence goes up across the board,” Tougaard says. “We’re looking forward to demonstrating exactly how this works on the stand this year and to sharing more about the ongoing development of LUCAi® for stone fruits.”
TOMRA expects blueberries take center stage at Fruit Logistica and at TOMRA in 2025
As predicted in the Fruit Logistica trend report for 2025, the TOMRA Food team is seeing evidence that the global area for blueberry cultivation is continuing to expand beyond the current powerhouse growing states — and the pressures that come with it.
“There are many forces impacting blueberry growers right now,” Tougaard says.
“Conditions are tough for farmers around the world, whether it’s counter-season supply, worries about new tariffs, or continuing high energy costs. We expect to have a lot of discussions about how an integrated blueberry line can help mitigate these forces.”
Fruit Logistica visitors can also expect a deep dive into the TOMRA Neon, a blueberry pre-grader for machine harvested blueberries destined for the fresh market.
TOMRA Neon uses AI modelling to remove more than 95% of clusters and over 90% of red and green berries. Results are incredible efficiency for the optical grader, relieving pressure on operators and businesses as a whole.

“The TOMRA Neon is a natural evolution in blueberry classification as it can remove unwanted debris and clusters whilst also removing clear waste product like unripe green and gross defects,” says Troy Cleaver, Senior Product Manager. “The Neon’s work allows the KATO to be even more focused on classifying marketable fruit into the ideal value stream.”

Neon completes a suite of integrated blueberry solutions, including the Harvest Cleaner, Small Fruit Eliminator, and KATO 260 with LUCAi® for the easy and effective processing of machine-harvested blueberries.
TOMRA’s showcase of machines boosting operational efficiencies will also include the TOMRA 5C, which will also feature on the TOMRA Fruit Logistica stand. The TOMRA 5C combines high-resolution lasers with BSI sensors and machine learning to continuously improve its sorting capabilities for applications including berries, mangoes, nuts, and dried fruit.
