UNICA is opting for healthy snacks and dips

Vegetable vending, red berries, purple broccoli or compostable packaging are some of the new developments that they are presenting this year in Madrid.

UNICA will attend Fruit Attraction (9D02) with an extensive catalogue of new developments that reflect their commitment to innovation and to finding practical, healthy solutions for its clients’ needs, thanks in part, to the boost that has been given recently to its fresh-cut range.

A high percentage of European consumers would purchase more fruit and vegetables if they were available in snack format. For this reason, UNICA has opted for mini fresh snacks (washed and cut, ready-to-eat), ideal for combining with vegetable spreads, another rising trend. The references that will be on display at the trade fair will be carrot sticks, cucumber snacks, cherry tomatoes, Sweet Palermo peppers, Crü sweet raw courgettes and the first purple sprouting broccoli, Redi.

Regarding spreadable sauces, in a first phase it will launch tzatziki (yogurt and cucumber) and chickpea hummus to combine with snacks in ready-to-eat formats. This project is the result of the collaboration with UNICA’s associate, Vegetales Línea Verde, through its company Productos Naturales de la Vega (Naturvega).

As a disruptive element, it is taking UNICA’s healthy snack vending machine concept to the trade fair, with the idea of implementing it in schools, hospitals and health centres, and revealing the saturation of unhealthy products that are usually eaten in these settings. In addition to opting for health, sustainability is also essential, an area in which UNICA has been working for many years. This is the reason behind the OK Compost HOME (biodegradable) packaging for these washed and ready-to-eat snacks in the case of the bags and rPET, for the tubs.

Within the snacking line, through the cucumber club snack MyCubies®, UNICA is collaborating with the Minions in order to catch the attention of a younger target group and a series of boosting actions are planned on the stand at the fair to promote them.

The variety and development of new products as the result of constant innovation are key pillars in UNICA’s philosophy. At this edition, differential products will be presented, such as the Wabi-Sabi tomato, unusual in terms of texture and flavour, the Little Planet melon, fruity and very juicy, or the Sweet Palermo Chocolate pepper.

In line with the rising consumer trend of super foods, visitors will be able to discover new developments in red berries (strawberries, bilberries and raspberries) on UNICA’s stand, thanks to the incorporation of Bonafrú.
