Valdemar F1: the traditional melon with resistance to powdery mildew

HM.Clause’s variety has been winning over the brands for two years now due to its flavour, the successor of Valverde F1, and the added bonus of its resistances

The time has come to prepare the next melon harvest and, in the Piel de Sapo category, many farmers are already convinced. For those opting for ‘traditional’ melons, but that need a bonus of resistances, the ideal option is Valdemar F1.

And the fact is that the variety from HM.Clause offers exactly this: “the traditional melon, now with more resistances and an extended planting calendar,” according to José Miguel Reyes, Head of Marketing and Communication at the company, the worldwide leader in melon seeds.

Valdemar F1 has been on the market for two years now and it continues to gain followers amongst those opting for the Premium category. Its genetics come from a very successful variety, Valverde F1, a benchmark on the market for two decades, and it adds resistances to powdery mildew and aphids (it contains the VAT gene), as well as to fusarium and MNSV to this premium quality. A complete package that allows farmers to tackle the harvest with guarantees.

Developed for greenhouse crops in Almeria, the Valdemar F1 variety is suitable for both early and late sowing and it is recommended for transplants ranging from mid-January to mid-March, coinciding in dates with Valverde F1.

Amongst the advantages of Valdemar F1, it is worth mentioning that it is a very plastic variety. It is earlier than its predecessor (it is between 7 and 10 days earlier than Valverde F1); it has a plant with average robustness and it offers high production.

Regarding its fruit, their high organoleptic qualities stand out, with excellent flavour and a high sugar level, which put it in the ‘brand’ category. Externally, the fruit has well-marked lengthwise grooving and an attractive golden colour. There is also great homogeneity amongst the fruit, with pieces weighing between 2.5 kgs and 3.5 kgs.

The seed company continues to extend its market share with this variety and over this campaign it will display it again in field days to show it to those who have not yet had the chance to see it on site.
