Over a period of more than a year, the company implemented significant upgrades to its facilities, reinforced aviation security protocols and incorporated advanced inspection technology to comply with international requirements. One of the key investments was the installation of a high-tech metal detector manufactured in Italy, specifically designed to meet the strict standards set by the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the DGAC and other international authorities.
The project involved a comprehensive operational and documentary transformation, including infrastructure adaptation, reorganisation of internal processes and extensive staff training. These measures ensured full compliance with aviation security regulations required by both Chilean authorities and destination markets.
As a result, Sociedad Exportadora Verfrut SpA was granted Approval Certification No. CS 178/2025 by the DGAC, officially recognising the company as a “known consignor”. This status authorises its El Porvenir packing facility, located in Chile’s O’Higgins Region, to carry out air shipments to all markets under internationally recognised security standards.
The certification, valid until 5 June 2027, confirms that Verfrut now fully complies with global aviation security regulations, enabling all air freight to be secured at origin rather than undergoing additional screening at the airport.
Operational improvements and efficiency gains
The certification process included audits, manual reviews, the acquisition of specialised equipment, operational restructuring and workforce training. Key areas assessed by the DGAC included operational security, risk management, infrastructure, staff competence and regulatory compliance.
Among the most relevant improvements was the installation of a metal detection system that allows 100% of air-exported fruit cartons to be internally screened at the packing facility. This eliminates the need for airport X-ray inspections, streamlining logistics and improving handling efficiency.
The new system also contributes to lower airport-related costs and faster truck turnaround times, optimising loading and unloading operations.
Technology-driven security framework
The certified operation incorporates a high-coverage CCTV system with a dedicated monitoring room, access control turnstiles with personalised cards, metal detection portals for staff and visitors, and an OS-10 certified security team. Together, these measures significantly raise the internal security standard of the facility.
Commercial and logistical advantages
Beyond operational efficiency, the “known cargo” status enhances confidence among international buyers, particularly in markets with strict security requirements such as the United States. By guaranteeing that shipments are free from contaminants, suspicious metal elements or aviation security risks, the certification strengthens Verfrut’s value proposition to importers and retail chains.

Verfrut exports approximately four million kilograms of fresh fruit by air each year. Around half of this volume will now be processed at the El Porvenir facility, with key products including cherries, peaches, nectarines and plums.
With this certification, Verfrut positions itself as a benchmark in aviation security, regulatory compliance and operational excellence, reinforcing Chile’s reputation as a reliable supplier of premium fresh fruit to the world’s most demanding markets.
