Some of the approved work includes: a new sectioning of the space, the incorporation of a water cistern with capacity for 280 m³ of water, 54.6 kilometres of new water pipes in the buildings, as well as an improvement in the general protection conditions.
After five years of work to define the project, and coinciding with the 40th anniversary of its foundation, the Board of Directors of Mercamadrid has approved an important plan for upgrading and adapting Mercamadrid’s general installations. The project means a complete modernisation of the general infrastructures, with upgrades that will be upheld by the highest quality standards and the latest legislation.

The plan contemplates improvement actions in the general installations of the central fish market, in the six buildings making up the central fruit and vegetable market, and in the general water distribution on the premises.
The incorporation of all this new infrastructure to the BM digital model is highly relevant, as it will allow very complete real data to be available for a more efficient control and maintenance of the installations, streamlining any fault resolutions required.
The BIM methodology (Building Information Modelling), is, according to buildingSMART (a non-profit association) a collaborative work methodology for the conception and management of building and civil building work projects.
