According to Vicente Escandell, Manager and third generation at the helm of the company, alongside his siblings Aurora and Joan, “strawberries are a product that we market regularly and continuously from December to June under the brands Naturfresa and No&Ca, flagships which, after so many years have become synonymous with quality for our buyers.”
From their stands in Halls B and D at the Mercabarna Central Fruit and Vegetable Market, the food hub of southern Europe and a highly competitive market, the Catalonian company markets strawberries for the home market and for export. “The export volume has been rising in recent years, reaching around 40% of the total marketed produce during the last season,” the executive analyses.
In addition to relying on this complete, consolidated offer, the philosophy of the Escandell company is to offer a good service to suppliers and farmers and, at the same time, to give the best selection of products to each client.
In terms of marketing, the executive points out that “the routine daily work is ever changing because there is a great deal of uncertainty due to the current circumstances; in this sense, the experience of the first lockdown was a very positive learning curve that should be applied in this campaign.”
Regarding production, the Manager of Frutas Escandell comments that “from our producers’ data, we can deduce that the volume of production from this campaign will be similar to the amount from the previous one” and that “the commitment to diversification of crops started in previous campaigns has been consolidated.”
