Spain’s fruit and vegetable imports from France, the main supplier to the Spanish market, increased by 20% until November 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 989,263 tons. Portugal, the third-largest supplier, also recorded a 20% growth, totaling 379,151 tons.
Morocco remains the second-largest supplier, with 398,826 tons imported, representing a 1% increase.
According to statistics from the Department of Customs and Special Taxes, imports from EU countries grew at a higher rate than those from third countries during the analyzed period. However, FEPEX highlights that the continuous increase in fruit and vegetable imports affects both EU and non-EU suppliers.
Over the last five years (January to November), Spain’s imports of fresh fruits and vegetables from the EU have grown by 27%, rising from 1.5 million tons in 2020 to 1.9 million tons in 2024. Imports from non-EU countries increased by 25% in the same period, growing from 1.6 million to 2 million tons.
