Having recovered from the volcano, Europlátano is arriving in Madrid

After a year devoted to recovering the island’s productive capacity due to the eruption’s consequences, the flagship brand of Europlátano now has its own stand in hall 10 of IFEMA Madrid, representing its 670 producers .

Europlátano, one of the six organisations that make up Plátano de Canarias, and its flagship brand, Gabaceras, will once again have its own stand this year at Fruit Attraction.

Europlátano has taken part in this event virtually from its very beginning, but this continuity was broken due to the consequences to banana production in the Canary Islands of the volcanic eruption on La Palma in 2021, which dropped by 15% in 2022. The company, which has its central installations on La Palma was one of the worst affected by the disaster. It lost around 14,000 tonnes last year, compelled to concentrate its efforts on helping the affected farmers to recover the crop and the way of life of many families on the island in as little time as possible. The efforts made by its producers, who worked from the outset of the volcanic emergency to recover the activity on the affected farms and return to the pre-eruption production levels, have managed to turn this situation around. During this process, the support from their clients, who have shown comprehension and empathy for the natural catastrophe, has been essential. Thanks to the positive production and recovery data for 2023, the 670 producers belonging to the company will be represented on the Gabaceras stand.

A reference for consumers

Gabaceras represents the spirit of continuous improvement pertaining to the founding members of Europlátano which, over 30 years ago, opted for differentiation by way of product quality. At present, they combine artisan cultivation techniques with the highest quality and food safety standards in the production and ripening processes.

Gabaceras is a Canary Island banana reference for consumers. A consumer who is increasingly aware of the importance of quality, tradition, sustainability and social responsibility, and that recognises the differentiating values and attributes of Gabaceras compared to other bananas: a local product with certified high quality, with the highest food safety standards, advocating a farming process that is both fair for farmers and environmentally-friendly.
