The company from Almeria Keops Agro is seeking tools to produce more, while, at the same time, looking after the environment. It is doing this thanks to its commitment to regenerative agriculture and the Epigen Healthy Bite stamp. This certification guarantees its production with sustainable techniques that encourage the active catching of carbon in the soil (measured by university research) and the maximum natural expression of the food.
All of this is reflected in the quality of its products, the flagship of which is the Karamel tomato line. In this campaign, Keops Agro has carried out a changeover of surface area from peppers to tomatoes and it plans to increase the tomato production volume by between 8-10% in its three references: Karamel Rome (vine cherry tomato), Karamel Cerisse (round cherry tomato), as well as in larger tomatoes, the vine tomato.
In the last 2022/23 campaign, its top destinations, France and Germany, saw an important increase in their demand for Karamel, and the company’s strategy involves strengthening this line and, at the same time, extending the market share in regions where it is not yet present, explains María del Mar del Águila, Sales and Marketing Manager at Keops Agro.
The demand for ecological produce is tending to drop due to the current situation, and prices have gone up and down this year. “We find it surprising that the price of bio produce has been very similar to conventional goods at some points in Germany and the United Kingdom in large supermarkets.” However, the company from Almeria, specialising in the production of ecological produce, remains confident about the future of the sector. “In this 2023/24 campaign, we expect to maintain cucumber volumes and our lime crop will increase considerably, adding another 40% to production in this type of citrus fruit.” Watermelon production will also increase, looking to the spring cycle.
