Founded in 1950, IPM Potato Group has become Ireland’s market leader in seed potato breeding and export. The company is also the largest exporter of protected and exclusive varieties in the United Kingdom. Through a strong grower network in Ireland, Scotland, France, the Netherlands, and England, IPM exports to over 40 countries, with a particular focus on the Mediterranean region.

For more than five decades, IPM Potato Group has collaborated closely with Teagasc, Ireland’s national institute for agri-food research, advisory, and education. This partnership has resulted in a portfolio of high-quality, resilient varieties that meet the evolving needs of growers and markets.

“This collaboration within Royal HZPC Group opens up new opportunities for growth alongside our customers and growers,” said Marcel de Sousa, Director of IPM Potato Group. “We will maintain our own identity and direction while sharing a common vision for the future of the industry. It’s a valuable opportunity to build a strong future together.”

Hans Huistra, CEO of Royal HZPC Group, emphasized that the acquisition aligns perfectly with the company’s long-term vision.

“IPM fits seamlessly with our approach — strong customer relationships, close collaboration with growers, and a deep commitment to innovation. With this acquisition, we expand our total acreage by 1,800 hectares, primarily in Scotland, further strengthening our UK presence and opening new opportunities in key growth regions such as North Africa.”

Royal HZPC Group confirmed that IPM Potato Group will continue operating under its current name and leadership, led by Marcel de Sousa. Both organizations will explore new synergies in research, varietal development, and international expansion, united by a shared mission: developing responsible food for a growing global population.

The acquisition is subject to approval by the relevant competition authorities.
