Yuksel Seeds, the Turkish multinational seed company, continues to strengthen its presence in Spain with the inauguration of its new Research and Development (R&D) Centre in Vícar, Almería.

The new centre covers an area of approximately three hectares and houses more than 500 varieties. At this site, the company will develop new lines of tomato, cucumber, pepper and melon, among others, with the aim of offering products increasingly adapted to the needs of Spanish growers. These developments will incorporate new resistances, higher yields and new commercial typologies that add greater value to the market.

This facility adds to Yuksel Seeds’ 11 R&D centres worldwide, six of which are located in Turkey, further consolidating the company’s strategic commitment to innovation and varietal development.

The inauguration was attended by members of the international team, including Ali Yüksel, Global Head of Breeding, and Gökhan Cengiz, Global Head of Sales and Marketing, as well as representatives from Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Poland, Morocco, France, the Netherlands and Turkey. At institutional level, attendees included the Mayor of Vícar, Antonio Bonilla, and the Councillor for Agriculture, Francisco Rodríguez Vargas, along with clients, partners and suppliers from the sector.

During the event, Francisco Sabio, Head of Yuksel Seeds Spain, highlighted that “these new facilities are not just a physical space, but a reflection of our commitment to the sector, to our customers and to the future of horticulture—a commitment based on proximity, innovation and collaborative work.”

Sabio also publicly thanked the Vícar City Council and the Vícar Agricultural School for their support and collaboration. Yuksel Seeds shares the site with the school and maintains a close relationship through a training internship agreement.

With this centre, Yuksel Seeds reaffirms its commitment to Spain as a strategic market and a key hub for the development of varieties adapted to the Mediterranean environment.
