Hygienic machine design

Hygienic design is a fundamental principle in the development of new machines. The objective is to ensure that the design enables optimal cleaning and, consequently, effective disinfection. The result is microbiologically safe machines that guarantee greater food safety, higher product quality and extended shelf life.

To support these principles, Sormac has carried out extensive microbiological studies, both in its own laboratory and in vegetable processing companies. The results obtained have been used to further optimise machine design.

Aphid control in lettuce

With the withdrawal of plant protection products against aphids, vegetable growers and processors are facing an increasing challenge. Aphids not only cause damage in the field but also create quality issues on processing lines. For this reason, in collaboration with Vertify and several leading lettuce processors in the Netherlands, Sormac is conducting research in its Venlo laboratory into different settings of its washing technologies to effectively remove aphids without the use of chemicals.

Project expertise

Sormac supports vegetable processors not only with machines and processing lines, but also with complete vegetable processing projects, from concept and engineering through to commissioning.
