A silent, effective, and natural defence against pests

Biogard, the agricultural division of CBC Iberia, has been weaving an invisible yet effective network for years to protect crops against the most persistent pests

The company specialises in pest control solutions based on mating disruption, primarily targeting lepidopterans (caterpillars, moths). In addition, they offer a catalogue of biopesticides aimed at controlling pests and diseases using microbiological products registered as phytosanitary treatments. All of this is done with the aim of reducing chemical pressure in the fields and promoting a more balanced agricultural model.

Although CBC Iberia is part of a Japanese group with international presence, its activity in Spain is structured through various production zones. Most of its mating disruption programmes (around 80%) are applied to woody crops such as vines and stone or pome fruits, particularly in regions like Catalonia, Aragón, La Rioja, Castile and León, and Galicia. However, its presence in the south is also significant: in the Almería region, Biogard deploys specific tools for greenhouse vegetables, focusing on controlling tomato leaf miner (Tuta absoluta).confusxion-sexual-aerosol

In this regard, one highlight is the use of Isonet® T, a mating disruption product targeting this key pest in tomato cultivation. Alongside it is Naturalis®, based on the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana, an effective microorganism against several pests. The range also includes a microbiological insecticide, Rapax® AS, formulated with Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki (strain EG 2348), in liquid form for the control of lepidopteran larvae.

“We work mostly in conventional agriculture, even though most of our products are certified for organic use. But that doesn’t restrict their application to that type of farming,” explains Jorge Hernández, Biogard’s Marketing Manager. “More and more conventional producers are choosing these solutions as part of their integrated pest management strategies.”

Biogard’s portfolio is further enhanced by its Bioplanet brand, focused on beneficial insects and mites. Through these natural allies, the company reinforces its commitment to biological control, especially in intensive greenhouse farming (peppers, tomatoes, etc.).
