These installations will allow the cooperative to reach a handling capacity of asparagus of 120,000 kilos/8 hours. The premises cover a surface area of 10,000m², with 11 lines of state-of-the-art specialised machinery for handling fresh produce.
This action is encompassed in the Granada cooperative’s growth strategy, which foresees an improvement in the logistics, quality and product control, centralising the activity in installations that also include the guarantees of the following quality certificates: Global GAP and GRASP.
“For this campaign we hope to have a production of 9 million kilos, with this figure increasing in the future, as we will have new plantations available in 2023,” explains Francisco Delgado, Manager of Gallombares.
Looking to the future, the organisation’s aim regarding such an important topic as energy efficiency is to be able to develop its activity almost totally using renewable energies. To do this, they are going to install photovoltaic panels on the roof of the new premises that will generate 90-95% of the energy they require for all the machinery and equipment (handling lines, chilling rooms and tunnels, etc.).
