Under the leadership of Juan Antonio Reyes, Grupo Reyes Gutiérrez continues its strategic expansion to solidify its position as a leader in the European market.
Reyes Gutiérrez has experienced significant growth in Cádiz and Portugal, thanks to the maturation of plantations now reaching full production. It is currently negotiating new projects to add 200 additional hectares in eastern Spain.
“We plan to establish our own production in eastern Spain, as well as a handling facility. We already have agreements with producer partners that provide us with around 1,000 tons, and we are finalizing others that will increase volumes in future campaigns.”
This would raise their global production to around 7,000-8,000 tons in the coming years, primarily of Hass and Lamb Hass varieties.
In the case of mangoes, yields have increased despite water scarcity.
“We have seen improved yields in kilograms per hectare, even while facing the consequences of water shortages, but with good quality,” Reyes noted.
The recent organic certification of 120 hectares at the ‘Los Nogales’ farm in Cádiz highlights the group’s commitment to sustainability.
International expansion
Although the company does not currently plan to cultivate land in Morocco, it has secured exclusive agreements with major producers in the country, which will add 4,000 tons to its supply in upcoming campaigns. These alliances include agronomic and quality control as well as exclusive commercialization rights.
In the Iberian Peninsula, the group continues its efforts to reach 1,000 hectares, a goal it expects to achieve by 2026/27.
Innovation as a strategic pillar
To implement its strategy, the group actively invests in knowledge and technology. It has established several R&D&I projects in collaboration with public and private organizations, focusing on avocado production, handling, and ripening.
This commitment also plays a key role in adapting to global challenges and demands such as sustainability. European markets increasingly require food produced under stricter sustainability criteria.
“In addition to carbon footprint, our clients also prioritize water footprint. For this reason, we have been certifying our operations for years under standards such as Global GAP, Global Spring, organic production, Naturland, and more,” Reyes explained.

These measures include implementing advanced systems for water and fertilizer efficiency, contributing to more responsible production.
A promising future
Recent rains in the Axarquía region have brought significant relief to the sector, allowing aquifers to recover and bringing optimism to farmers and technicians. This favorable outlook, combined with Grupo RG’s strategies, lays the foundation for a solid and sustainable future in the Spanish avocado industry.
At the sectoral level, companies have an important tool at their disposal. In the last edition of Fruit Attraction, the Interprofessional Association for Avocado and Mango was launched, with a primary focus on promoting European consumption and, in particular, the “Spain brand”.
“Strengthening the sector’s commercial and public visibility is key to our growth,” Reyes emphasized.
