In a context where aphid-transmitted viruses pose a growing threat to zucchini crops, Semillas Fitó once again makes a difference with Raffaello, a variety that stands out not only for its high yield and ease of management but also for its resistance package. This innovation reaffirms the company’s commitment to developing real solutions for farmers across the Iberian Peninsula.

A comprehensive solution

Raffaello is not just another zucchini on the market. Its medium-high vigor, short internode and open plant architecture allow for better ventilation, greater efficiency in treatments and reduced labor during staking.

According to Fulgencio Hernández, crop specialist in zucchini, “Raffaello has demonstrated its adaptability in all production areas of the Peninsula, adjusting its planting calendar to the climate of each region.”

Fruit without surprises

One of the most valued aspects by farmers and marketers is the fruit’s performance. Raffaello produces a dark, very shiny zucchini with a perfectly straight cylindrical shape, from the first to the last fruit of the cycle. This homogeneity is key to improving commercialization, minimizing waste and increasing value per kilogram.

In addition, this plant structure facilitates adaptation to diverse agronomic conditions, enabling cultivation in all types of soils and areas, from auctions to cooperatives or local markets. Its internal density gives it extra weight without the need to elongate the fruit, a direct advantage in terms of profitability. Furthermore, as highlighted by some marketers, the product offers excellent post-harvest life, ensuring arrival in perfect condition to demanding international markets.

Resistance as a guarantee of profitability

At a time when viral pressure is conditioning many growers’ campaigns, having a variety like Raffaello is a guarantee of success. Its resistance to CMV, ZYMV and WMV viruses transmitted by aphids protects production from losses caused by smaller sizes, fruit deformities or even the total uprooting of farms.

“These viruses are extremely virulent and spread quickly, so having resistant genetic material is a key tool for crop profitability,” explains Hernández.

Beyond the product

The development of Raffaello is the result of joint work between Semillas Fitó’s breeding team and field technicians. “The breeding department is the first link in the chain, and its role has been essential to achieve a variety that meets all the demands of the modern farmer,” stresses the crop specialist.

This collaborative approach ensures that Fitó’s innovation is not just a theoretical response but a solution adapted to the real, day-to-day challenges in the field.
