The initiative aims to strengthen recognition and visibility of Algarve IGP citrus among French suppliers, highlighting their quality, authenticity and flavour.
This action is part of the international promotion campaign for Algarve IGP citrus, organised by AlgarOrange, the Association of Algarve Citrus Operators. The campaign will run until December 2026, with France considered one of its strategic markets.

Citrus of excellence to feel the sun
“Taste the flavour. Feel the sun.” This is the invitation addressed to French consumers to enjoy fruits that reflect the region’s warmth, vibrancy and sense of wellbeing.
Around 87% of Portugal’s citrus production is concentrated in the Algarve, and average productivity has increased sustainably in recent years thanks to efficient resource management and investment in innovation and technology. Production in the 2023–2024 season exceeded the ten-year average by 10%.

France is one of the main destinations for Algarve citrus exports. In 2024, sales in this market exceeded €55 million, representing a 7% increase compared to 2023.
Algarve IGP citrus (oranges, clementines, mandarins and lemons) stand out for their thin, brightly coloured peel, high juice content and sweet flavour, with a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity.During the 2023–2024 season, IGP-certified production in the European Union exceeded 64,000 tonnes, the highest figure of the past decade.

The strategy for Algarve IGP citrus forms part of the Internacionalizar + Algarve 3.0 – Promoting the international recognition of the Algarve region project, which will run until December and includes various promotional initiatives across the agri-food, tourism, technology, healthcare and maritime sectors.
