Added value in small formats

Tropico Spain has implemented a line of smaller-sized tropical fruit, ideal for eating all in one go

There is no accounting for taste. And this refrain can be passed on to food. So, depending on the variety and the market, until recently we could find mangos weighing between 250 and 750 grams. However, little by little, this range is extending and now we can find fruits that concentrate all the flavour of the mango in just 220 grams (and in the case of avocados, just 80 grams). Tropico Spain has seen a market niche in this segment and since the beginning of this campaign it has been marketing these new smaller-sized formats, bringing added value through the ready to eat versions and functional, attractive packaging. For consumers, it is a highly positive option, since it allows the fruit to be tasted in an individual way. And, for the producing companies, this concept means taking full advantage of the harvest.

The company from Malaga is immersed in the heat of the tropical fruit campaign and this year it expects to grow by 10% (they will reach 32 million euros in invoicing), after the giant leap they experienced during the previous year (+70%). “We expect to market 10 million kilos of avocados and 6.7 of mango,” the manager, Óscar Ramírez advances. The company’s market share continues to grow and they now ship to the Middle East by air. “There are countries with a great future such as China and South Korea, which are beginning to eat avocados and over the next few years their level of demand is going to increase.”

As a new feature, this year they have increased the capacity of their ripening rooms by 50% to continue working on the ready to eat segment. “More and more customers are asking us for this. We are seeing our largest growth in Northern Europe, the United Kingdom and Spain. Each company has its own needs.” therefore we offer them a tailor-made service.
