Jam carrying the Demeter seal

Frutas Bionova is taking a further step by processing jam, and this year it is incorporating new products prepared using fruit from its own production, from the family-run company

The company from Extremadura Bionova was a pioneer in ecological farming in the region when it started developing ecological crops in 1994 and subsequently, in 2010, it embarked on a biodynamic project. The driving force behind this, the manager Emilio Moreno, started this business adventure motivated by his awareness of sustainability, and over these years he has combined his main activity (high school teacher) with that of being a farmer, while continuing to innovate, seeking out alternatives that bring value to his products. An example of this is his bio jam and bio light preserves without added sugar (with a low glycaemic index), to which this year a line of biodynamic jam carrying the Demeter seal, prepared using agave syrup, has been added. Therefore, we can find, for example, biodynamic flat peach jam with cane sugar or eco bitter orange marmalade with agave syrup, in convenient formats of 32, 67, 102 and 217 grams. All of them are prepared using fruit grown on his land, located in the Vegas Bajas of the Guadiana River (Valdelacalzada, Badajoz), on which approximately 1.5 million kilos are produced every year.

An international scope

His fresh production extends from mid May to December and it includes plums, nectarines, peaches, flat peaches, flat nectarines, pears, pomegranates and persimmons, all of them harvested at their perfect point of ripeness and respecting the quality standards to the full, as endorsed by the Demeter, AE and Globalgap, Grasp certificates, amongst others. Over 95% of the production is exported, mainly to Germany and Denmark and to a lesser extent, to Switzerland, Italy, Canada and Brazil.
