Semillero Los Crespos is facing a campaign marked by growth. Luis Crespo, owner of the Almería-based nursery, confirms that forecasts point to a production of between 12 and 13 million watermelon plants, representing an increase of between 10% and 15% compared to the previous year. This expansion extends both in the domestic market and in Portugal.
The campaign started with a slight delay due to adverse weather conditions, although the situation quickly normalised. By mid-March, activity in Almería was practically completed and operations were beginning to pick up in Seville, explains Crespo.
Mini watermelon continues to be one of the leading segments. Demand continues to grow, particularly in the organic category, while conventional watermelon production is progressing steadily.

The nursery’s catalogue includes grafted plants of benchmark varieties such as Sandía Fashion and Red Jasper, as well as melon plants. For organic cultivation, it also offers melon seedlings.
Founded in 1991 in Almería, the company has a well-established track record in the production of horticultural and ornamental seedlings. In 2023, it expanded its facilities by 12,000 m² to meet growing customer demand.
