The cooperative HORTOVILLA S. COOP. AND. has begun a new green asparagus campaign, maintaining its commitment to quality, endorsed by Global G.A.P., GRAPS, IFS and SPRING certificates, along with the Calidad Rural brand name.
Its products, marketed under the Hortovilla brand, are produced entirely in the Vega de Granada area, specifically in Villanueva Mesía, and they are present on the main European markets from the end of February until June, followed by a mini campaign of plantations of the so-called ‘verdeo’ asparagus in September.
“Our excellent green asparagus sprout and are grown using solely biological methods in the open air, in a privileged area of the Genil plains, which gives them the richness of the water from the area’s irrigation. This, along with the weather conditions on the plains, generates the unbeatable delicacy of our green asparagus, which are differentiated due to their strong flavour, crunchy texture and plentiful healthy properties,” Carlos Ortega, the Chairman of Hortovilla, explains.
The company offers a wide range of preparations, from bunches to asparagus tips in all the different formats, applying a sustainable strategy. This is developed from the fields, with zero residue crops, where water efficiency is maximised, to the handling, replacing all the plastic packaging with 100% recyclable and biodegradable paper. “Our daily goal is to offer consumers the best asparagus, bringing together experience, innovation, technology and consumer insight.”
The cooperative is made up of 184 associate farmers, who work “with great effort, sacrifice, and enthusiasm” in the cultivation of 300 hectares, generating an annual production of one million kilos.
Asparagus with “excellent calibre and unbeatable quality,” according to the Chairman. To achieve this, the greatest care is taken in each step that comprises the preparation process, from the selection of the plantations on the experimental farm that the cooperative runs for the benefit of its associates, passing through the care for the crops in the fields and the handling phase. All of this to ensure that the asparagus reaches the consumers in perfect conditions.
