Virtually all the citrus fruit prepared by the Valencian company reaches the market with leaves.
“In our preparation process we have always backed citrus fruit with leaves, for mandarins, clementines or oranges. We consider that this provides an added value regarding produce freshness and our customers acknowledge this to us,” Ramón Gil, sales manager from the company explains.
France is the nerve centre for the company’s citrus fruit exports, and Paris, due to its logistical facility, is the main destination. “The French market is highly receptive to our clementines; it particularly values both our type of preparation and the flavour. However, little by little we are starting to open up other markets in Europe,” the executive emphasises.
For Gil, the current campaign is developing in a correct, although not spectacular, way. The fact remains, however, that the market has had some bumpy patches such as the week of the Paris terrorist attacks or some days when the market has suffered from the variety change over. “In January, the Clemenules no longer held the correct quality due to the high temperatures and a quick change over to other, more expensive varieties, Clemenvilla and Hernandina had to be made.”
The incredibly entrepreneurial Valencian company is always to be found immersed in new activities, both regarding infrastructures and the marketing of its brands. And it is one of the best known companies on the markets due to its brand-name bias for Piel de Sapo melon production.
The company, with head offices in El Puig, also has installations in Viver, to attend to demands by the farmers from the Alto Palancia region in Castellon. It is also present at Mercavalencia and it has warehouses solely for melons in La Mancha.
