The leading Spanish cooperative group has launched the marketing of Valencian kiwis, committing itself to local production.
The current season represents the year in which the organisation will market its kiwi production from the Valencian Region for the first time.
For several years now, Valencian farmers who traditionally focussed on citrus fruit as their only crop, have started diversifying towards other produce such as avocados, persimmons, stone fruit and kiwis.
The main Spanish cooperative group, Aneccop, has put its first tonnes of Valencian kiwis on the market, a fruit with characteristics that put it on the same level as the best kiwis produced in other areas.
According to sources from the organisation itself, “the weather conditions, the growing practices and an unhurried collection, harvesting at the perfect point of ripeness, have allowed obtaining a sweet kiwi, but with a touch of acidity, which can contribute to the sustainability of Valencian agriculture.”
Valencian kiwis can be acquired in Carrefour hypermarkets in the Valencian Region and in Consum supermarkets in Valencia and Castellon.
