Modì® continues to grow

The International Modi® Project continues to grow thanks to the official incorporation of the Dole Chile Group.

Dole Chile joins other license-holders from Europe, Turkey, Serbia, Russia, Uruguay, Australia and the United States, who are working together to spread the Modi® apple all over the world.

The crop forecasts estimate reaching 1,000 hectares of production amongst all the countries in a few years’ time, 80% of which will be located in the northern hemisphere with an overall variety production of around 30,000 tonnes.

Modi® corresponds to a modern, yet original-flavoured red apple from a rustic tree with a natural resistance to the main pathogens and minimum human intervention during its cultivation, which allows a significant saving to be made in resources and means a positive impact on the environment. This variety was conceived and developed by the CIV (Consorzio Italiano Vivaisti), a globally implanted organisation that develops experimental and improved programmes and that is particularly interested in the varieties that generate very little environmental impact.

The final purpose of the Modi® project is to promote coordinated strategies in the farming procedures, developing global marketing and promotional campaigns and to encourage a cooperative, coordinated approach between producers and sellers.

Pier Filippo Tagliani, chairman of the Modi® Europe Consortium, appointed by the Consorzio Italiano Vivaisti to coordinate the members in this phase of the project, explains that “the objective includes an unconditional support by the members of this club, where the parameters related to environmental sustainability are given priority in order to offer the best quality of a product that satisfies all the agents in the supply chain, from the producer to the consumer.”
