The Association of ORRI Mandarin Producers, Orri Running Committee (ORC), will present the first app that identifies irregular citrus fruit plantations.
This presentation will take place on the Association’s stand (8EO5D) on Thursday, the 6th, at 10.30 am. The first mobile phone application that identifies authorised land plots of plantations of a protected citrus fruit variety, specifically the mandarin variety, ORRI.
Likewise, the Association will present its new corporate image and renewed web site, as well as the actions that are being started to promote the ORRI mandarin variety and that will be used to control and defend the authorised plantations of this variety in our country.
The mobile phone application, Orri App is based on GPS geo-positioning, which allows the land plots of the Orri variety that have been licensed for production to be identified. Given that the cultivation of this type of mandarin is limited, Orri App is a powerful tool for the members of the Orri Running Committee (ORC) that also identifies any potentially irregular land plots. Each member of this association is authorised to download the application onto up to five mobile devices.
It is a very user-friendly system. The user just has to be positioned near to the plot that he wishes to identify, and when the application is opened it will geo-locate his position. An aerial view of the user’s position will appear on the mobile device. The user has to mark the land plot to be identified on the Smartphone’s screen. At this moment the application itself will inform the user whether the consulted land plot is authorised by a TEO sub-licence (TheEnforcementOrganization, S.L., the Master licensee of the Orri variety for Spain and Portugal) or not. Subsequently, the application will ask a series of easy questions to extend the information to be reported, and a photograph may even be included.
ORC is a private, non-profit making association with head offices in Valencia, which takes care of the variety’s control, defending its licensees, as well as commercially promoting this mandarin.
