Two essential events mark the start up of the season: the Half Marathon of L`Alcudia and the official campaign presentation
On the 14th of October and in L’Alcudia’s Salones Siglo XXI, the presentation of the start of the persimmon campaign for the Persimon brand, the only one protected by a Denomination of Origin took place.
The event was presided over by the Minister for Agriculture, Social Development, Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition of the Regional Government of Valencia, Mireia Mollà, as well as the mayor of the town, Andreu Salom, and Cirilo Arnandis, chairman of the D.O. Kaki Ribera del Xúquer.
The event ended with a nutritional study prepared by Doctor María Cortés Sánchez, from the Universidad Complutense (Madrid).
During the meeting, Arnandis emphasised that “after last year’s recorded decrease in the harvest, this campaign we have returned to normal production levels, with excellent fruit quality; therefore, we can supply all the markets.”
The production of the D.O. will reach 180,000 tonnes, of which approximately 50% is expected to be certified.
The Regulating Council has been working for many years to promote this fruit, and it has invested over 25 million euros in promotion campaigns, both in Spain and in Europe (United Kingdom, Germany and France). The same promotion lines will be followed this season, incorporating more distant destinations, such as the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
A product that is linked to a region
Talking about persimmons has always been linked to a region, the Ribera del Xúquer, an area where its farmers are well-versed in the know-how of growing such a unique product, and that under the umbrella of the Regulating Council, it has reached the fame that it enjoys today, both inside and outside our borders.
