Biocontrol and technology serving the farmer

From Fruit Today magazine, we interviewed Carolina Rodríguez, Field Marketing for the southern area, and Jordi Asamar, Product Manager for fungicides and biocontrol at Sipcam Iberia
SIPCAM

What is the current structure of Sipcam Iberia and how is its activity organised?

JA: Sipcam is a company of Italian origin with an international presence. In Spain, we operate as Sipcam Iberia, with offices in Valencia and a manufacturing plant in Sueca, right next to the Albufera Natural Park. This proximity to a protected environment reinforces our environmental commitment and the demand for clean, safe, and sustainable production processes. We focus on the formulation and marketing of crop protection products, biostimulants, and nutritional solutions.

What product lines make up your portfolio?

JA: We mainly work with five lines: fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, biocontrol, and biostimulation and nutrition. This last group, although it could be part of the other categories, has its own identity because these are low-toxicity solutions, often certified for organic farming or classified as zero-residue products. They are tools compatible with beneficial fauna, sustainable, and aligned with the increasing regulations on residues and sustainability.

CR: Today’s farmer is not only looking for effectiveness. They also want products that help keep their crops within residue limits, especially if they export. Many conventional growers use our organic or biocontrol solutions to complement strategies, reduce end-of-season residues, or manage resistance issues.SIPCAM

What solutions do you offer for foliar, root, or combined applications?

JA: We cover all approaches. There are products for foliar or root application, and some allow both. In the nutrition category, that flexibility is key. And for insecticides or fungicides, it depends on the pest type and location. If the pest is on the aerial part of the plant, we go for foliar application—unless we are working with systemic formulations effective from the root zone.

Which products do you highlight in Almería?

CR: In insecticides/acaricides, we focus on solutions like Adina® and Zenith® A26 (both azadirachtin-based and organic), Flash UM®, and Epik®. In fungicides, we highlight Sufrevit®, a concentrated sulphur suspension, Xanilo 45WG, and Araw (for organic use). As a biostimulant, we offer BlackJak, which is also suitable for organic production. This region is a leader in innovation and the use of beneficial insects, so we prioritise products that are compatible or can be integrated into biological control strategies.

What phytosanitary challenges are you currently facing?

JA: One of the current challenges is controlling Thrips parvispinus and Scirtothrips aurantii, especially in pepper crops. Our proposed solution combines Zenith® A26, Adina®, and Blackjak® as an effective alternative. Additionally, we maintain ongoing contact with institutions like IVIA, IMIDA, and INTIA, collaborating on validated strategies and technical trials.

What is Sipcam’s vision for the future?

JA: The sector is changing very quickly—regulations, emerging pests, climate… Our commitment is clear: to offer effective, registered tools adapted to new conditions. We work with internationally tested products, which ensures their performance in various contexts.

CA: Ultimately, our role is clear: to stand by the farmer with real, sustainable, and reliable solutions.
