Colombia’s blueberry industry is consolidating its position as one of the most dynamic segments in the country’s agricultural sector. In 2025, production reached 12,000 tonnes across approximately 1,000 hectares, driven mainly by a strategy focused on the domestic market.

At present, around 95% of Colombian blueberries are consumed locally. Demand is so strong that, despite the increase in national production, the country imported more than USD 10 million worth of blueberries between January and September last year to meet market needs.

Planted area set to expand

For 2026, the sector expects further growth, with planted area projected to increase by 20%. This would bring Colombia’s technical blueberry acreage to around 1,200 hectares.

The economic impact of this crop is significant. According to sector estimates, every 200-hectare production block requires an investment of close to USD 50 million and can generate more than 30,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Production is mainly concentrated in regions such as Cundinamarca and Boyacá, although new areas in Antioquia, Cauca and the Coffee Region are gaining relevance. One of Colombia’s key advantages is its ability to produce year-round, without major seasonal interruptions.

Exports continue to advance

Although exports still represent only a small share of total production, international shipments are progressing steadily. In 2025, Colombia exported around 574,607 kg of blueberries, generating between USD 3 million and USD 3.5 million in revenue.

The United States remains the main destination, absorbing between 80% and 90% of exports. At the same time, the sector is working to open new strategic markets such as China, Brazil and Mexico, with the aim of diversifying its international presence in the coming years.
