New CIV apple selection: Project aimed at the main European apple stakeholders

CIV is ready to cooperate for pre-commercial pilot plantations. It is a very early apple variety with very attractive fruit with a bright red color and very crisp and juicy flesh

CIV is proud to announce a Special Initiative concerning its own new very early bi-color apple selection, whose harvest period is 2-3 days before Gala:

Plant: resistant to scab, mid vigor with high and constant production, not subject to early fruit drop. Large picking window. Suitable for both conventional and organic production. Suitable for cultivation in cold and temperate climates.

Fruit: very attractive mid-large size, the over-color is bright red uniform and extended to 60% -80% of the fruit, background color is yellow. The flesh is very crunchy, juicy, nice flavor with a mid-high sweetness and a good level of acidity. In high coloring areas the over-color can reach the whole surface of the fruit.

This initiative offers the opportunity for any European apple producing company to constitute new advanced pilot orchards with this new apple selection directly in its property.

The main objective is to increase the experimentation sites with different soil and climatic characteristics and to shift the focus away from small experimental sites towards larger more ‘commercial-styled’ plots.

CIV is very interested in collaborating with key producers and/or stakeholders operating in the apple industry, both in Italy and in the rest of Europe.

As part of this activity, participation in the project will see special conditions as well as an attempt to disseminate and share the results generated by this initiative among all participants.

It is worth remarking that each interested participant shall order the testing trees to CIV within July 2018 to enable the authorized nurseries to graft the requested trees.

“We hope to involve a significant number of potential partners in the apple industry at an international level and look forward to the expression of interest in response to our public invitation” – the Variety Manager Marco Bertolazzi and the Director Eugenio Bolognesi jointly support the CIV.
