The breeders Mr Leis and Mr Diamanti said: “A useful comparison at global level. Our thanks go to the organisers: the Italian Council for Agricultural Research and Economics (CREA) and the Polytechnic University of Marche. See you at the next edition of the Symposium which will be held in China in 2024.

At the end of the International Strawberry Symposium 2021, on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, the presentation of the ISS2021 Varietal Field took place in Martorano 5, Cesena (Italy). There was a large number of new strawberry varieties of CIV – Consorzio Italiano Vivaisti.  The breeders of the CIV, Michelangelo Leis and Jacopo Diamanti, outlined the main characteristics of several june-bearers strawberries with high-chilling (HC) requirements and ever-bearers varieties: Muranopbr, Clerypbr, Jolypbr, Apricapbr Sibillapbr, Vivarapbr, CIVN223*/Annely®, CIVNB557pbr/Lycia®, CIVN251pbr/Quicky®, Delypbr and Nandipbr.

CIV breeders explained: “We are present on the global strawberry scene in more than 60 countries with our strawberry varieties. We have leading varieties in France such as Clerypbr, which is also the first among the early varieties in Germany, or such as Muranopbr which is the most widely grown variety in England. With the research on our june-bearers ever-bearers varieties we set up collaborations in the USA, Mexico and South Africa. Thanks to its consolidated experience, continuous investments in Research & Development, synergy and cooperation with the most qualified public and private research centres at international level, CIV has always been committed to varietal innovation thanks to high quality sensory characteristics, adaptability and major disease resistance to meet production needs, satisfy different customer segments and preserve nature”.

CIV breeders further said: “Therefore, the ISS 2021 Edition was an excellent opportunity for the CIV to interact with the world of research and experimentation thanks to the interesting contributions and insights of top level speakers and/or institutional participants, academics and international business operators of the sector. We also had the honour to have partially contributed to the contents of the Symposium with the scientific report “Genetic improvement on strawberry and state of the art of 40 years of CIV experience” by Mr Saverio Orsucci, the sponsorship of the Virtual Technical Tour Northern Area and the participation of some of our varieties in the Virtual Technical Tour Southern Area”.

Finally, the breeders Michelangelo Leis and Jacopo Diamanti concluded as follows: “The CIV would like to thank the organizers of the 9th ISHS-ISS Symposium (International Strawberry Symposium) – the Italian Council for Agricultural Research and Economics (CREA) and the Polytechnic University of Marche – for the excellent organization of the event, sharing the closing message of Prof. Bruno Mezzetti “Keep in mind the past, while looking to the future” in the name of a continuum in the field of research and development of strawberry cultivation that seamlessly combines the valuable scientific work carried out to date and the present and future research and development work that we are currently carrying out and that is waiting for us over the next few years.  So, see you at the next edition of the International Strawberry Symposium which will be held in China in 2024”.
