The Chilean avocado sector is heading into a particularly positive campaign. Paltas de Chile forecasts a crop of close to 285,000 tonnes for the 2026/27 season, which would represent an increase of around 10% compared with the previous campaign and place national production at its highest level since 2009/10.
This figure is especially relevant because the growth is not linked to an expansion in cultivated area. On the contrary, according to the organisation, planted area has even shown a slight decline in recent records. Growth is instead being driven by greater field efficiency, the incorporation of new technologies and continuous improvements in orchard management.
More production with the same resources
Paltas de Chile highlights that the production increase is the result of sustained work to produce more and better fruit while using the same, or even fewer, resources. Technological improvements, more efficient water management and better agronomic practices are allowing growers to raise yields without further expanding planted area.
Francisco Contardo-Sfeir, executive president of Paltas de Chile, described the forecast as a positive sign for both producers and consumers. According to him, a significant share of the avocado crop remains in the domestic market, where the product has a strong presence in Chilean households.
Record domestic consumption
Higher availability comes at a time of strong domestic consumption. In 2025, Chile reached a historic record of 8.9 kilos of Hass avocado per person per year, consolidating its position as the world’s second-largest consumer of this variety, behind only Mexico.
This strong local market provides stability for producers and allows the industry to project itself with greater confidence towards international markets.
Presence in 40 international markets
Alongside domestic supply, Chilean avocado will continue strengthening its presence in around 40 international markets. Europe remains the main export destination, while Latin America, led by Argentina, is gaining increasing importance.

Industry players are also looking with interest at new expansion opportunities in North America and Asia, two strategic regions for diversifying destinations and expanding the international presence of Chilean avocado.
Growth with a sustainable approach
For Paltas de Chile, production growth must be linked to a roadmap based on sustainability. The organisation stresses the importance of responsible water management, energy efficiency, good relations with neighbouring communities and the adoption of best agricultural practices.
With these forecasts, the Chilean avocado sector enters the 2026/27 season with the aim of consolidating its competitiveness, guaranteeing national supply and strengthening its international positioning as a supplier of quality fruit linked to efficiency and sustainability.
