On Sept. 13, Cámara Valencia celebrated the Valencian Economy Night, an event where the Chamber 2022 Awards were awarded to recognize the contribution of five Valencian companies for their innovation, social commitment, internationalization, business trajectory and excellence in the management model. Julián Herráiz, General Manager of AgroFresh Fruit Protection S.A, received the award given to the company in the Innovation category. “Accepting this award is a dream come true, and we are very proud to be recognized by such an outstanding institution as Cámara Valencia, since it was in this city where we started our journey in post-harvest. It is a pleasure to receive this award on behalf of the more than 90 AgroFresh employees in Spain. Service and innovation are the pillars on which we are based and the reason why customers trust us. All of our products, current and in the process of innovation, are designed with one purpose in mind: to help consumers around the world enjoy fruits and vegetables that stay fresh and taste great”. “At AgroFresh, we have been providing revolutionary solutions to the industry for more than 40 years, when we started in Valencia with Tecnidex Fruit Protection, founded by Manuel García-Portillo. This award serves as a driving force to continue our commitment to innovation, technology in agriculture and active listening.”

Cámara Oficial de Comercio, Industria, Servicios y Navegación called the Valencia Chamber of Commerce Awards 2022 to recognize five key companies operating in the region. The Innovation in Business category is a unique award in recognition of companies that introduce innovative actions or new lines of business. The jury selected AgroFresh from a pool of more than 50 nominations, evaluating, among other characteristics, the innovative capacity, business strategy, strategic vision and adaptation to market needs, as well as the ability to collaborate with other companies or organizations in the development of R&D&I projects.

AgroFresh’s mission is to prevent food loss and waste, as well as to conserve the planet’s resources, by providing a range of solutions, digital technologies and high-level services. AgroFresh supports growers, packers and retailers with solutions throughout the food supply chain to improve the quality and extend the shelf life of fresh produce. The Valencia-based organization, with locations around the world, has extensive post-harvest experience in a wide range of crops. Worldwide they are recognized for revolutionizing the apple industry with the SmartFresh™ Quality System. In Spain and other regions such as Morocco or Latin America, AgroFresh is also known for citrus solutions, such as detergents, disinfectants, coatings or equipment that help maintain fruit quality and improve the supply chain from field to home. AgroFresh operates seven innovation centers, located on four continents and in key fruit-growing regions, offering a complete portfolio of post-harvest freshness solutions that meet the needs of growers and packing houses around the world.

Recent innovations include the launch, just a month ago, of VitaFresh™ Botanicals Life Select, a plant-based and certified organic coating to keep produce fresher for longer and reduce food loss and waste. It helps reduce dehydration, maintains fruit weight and freshness throughout the supply chain. In the avocado crop it translates into an overall 50% reduction in fruit waste.

Another of the company’s recent solutions is FreshCloud™, a platform of digital tools for monitoring and analyzing fruit quality from harvest and through storage. Using machine learning and artificial intelligence, it improves planning, optimizes harvest management, helps save time, reduce costs and make decisions.

AgroFresh will be presenting these and other solutions at Fruit Attraction, the fruit and vegetable sector’s trade fair par excellence, which will be held in Madrid Oct. 4 through 6.

The other award-winning companies were: Laboratorios Babé for the impulse to the Internationalization Award, Emac Complementos Business Management Model Excellence Award, Productos Velarte, Socially Committed Company Award and Factor Ingeniería y Decoletaje, Digital Transformation Award.
