Campojoyma, the world leader in bio Chinese cabbage

The company from Almeria produces 5 million heads in Abla, Abrucena and the Region of Murcia

Sustainability, economic development for the region and world leadership all come together in the growing of ecological Chinese cabbage by the company from Almeria, Campojoyma. It started production in Abla and Abrucena, on the northern side of the Sierra Nevada fourteen years ago and, little by little, it has increased its production (now it also grows crops in the Region of Murcia) until becoming a global reference.

The company’s founder and manager, Francisco Jesús Montoya, explains that “innovation, sustainability and work well done have made us into the world leader in bio Chinese cabbage, with 5 million heads. We are proud of all the benefits that this crop brings to Almeria.”

This product epitomises Campojoyma’s values. On the one hand, the crop is certified by ‘Demeter’ as biodynamic farming, that is to say, ecological, environmentally-friendly and respectful of the natural balance of its surroundings. And on the other hand, it contributes to generating jobs and a sustainable economic development of the region. Additionally, it is framed in the strategic line of diversifying the catalogue of bio products, with over 30 references including vegetables, citrus fruit, fruit and brassicas. And last, but not least, it is a very healthy vegetable, sources from the company emphasise.

Campojoyma grows ecological Chinese cabbage from December to April and it exports it to the main European countries (France, Sweden, Denmark or Germany), reaching the shelves of the top European bio supermarkets. Its delicate, mild flavour make it popular with all palates.

More vitamin C than oranges

Bio Chinese cabbage belongs to the brassicas family, and it provides important health benefits. Rich in vitamins and minerals, it has very few calories and a large amount of antioxidants. For example, it contains more vitamin C than fruit such as oranges, and important amounts of alpha-linolenic acid, popularly known as Omega 3, essential for optimal mental health. Likewise, it promotes a healthy function of the circulation and the digestive tract.

Currently Campojoyma works with over 30 references in Almeria, Murcia and Granada and it produces 365 days of the year, always following the guidelines of traditional ecological farming.
