Hazera, the leader in yellow cherry tomatoes, introduces its new variety with resistance to TYLCV, Flamantyno. Very good evolution in sales for Sotogrande and Sotomayor vine tomatoes as well
The seed company, Hazera continues to expand its tomato portfolio, developing new references that meet the needs of the entire chain, from farmers to distribution. Its offer covers almost all the typologies and it has important flavour references such as the yellow cherry tomato, Summersun, which will be followed this campaign by a new development that is already attracting the producers’ attention: Flamantyno. “It has a similar flavour to Summersun and the main advantage is that it incorporates resistance to TYLCV. It is a very hardy variety, ideal for long cycles”, Tomato Development Manager Juan Montes details.
Within the vine tomato segment, Sotogrande and Sotomayor stand out; this has been the first commercial campaign for both of them, with significant results. The former stands out for its excellent colour and high production, whilst Sotomayor is larger in size and has a very high production. Thanks to their quality and the fact that they maintain their bright colour, they have obtained better prices than other varieties during this financial year.
Another variety that should be mentioned is Corredor, which is on the way to its third commercial campaign. It is an early variety that is very productive and has already been consolidated. “It is one of the references in Almeria in thick tomatoes and it also works well in other regions such as Granada or Malaga for the beef and short cycle segments. Today it is amongst the three main varieties” in this segment, Montes explains.
Looking to the future, the company is developing new vine tomato varieties with good plants and good colour; a loose Daniela type that maintains a very good calibre throughout the cycle and a round cherry for loose harvesting with great flavour and high brix degrees, all of which are in pre-commercial phases.
